Reminder to Return…

I am a great believer in the synchronicity of threes:

  • As part of my fabulous Christmas gifts, I received several new cookbooks- remarkable to my “reminder” Eating By Color from Maggie Maggio
  • Watching Chef-ographies on Food TV= several remarkably talented chefs that allowed their passions for working with food to manifest great joy and accomplishments despite adversity, set-backs and challenges
  • A blog post by Kim Cavendar about the new work of David Forlano and Steven Ford, that included a photo of their new bubble necklace which reminds me of Brussels sprouts

These three things have provided a powerful reminder to me to return/re-visit and embellish upon my fascination with faux polymer clay food, as wall quilts, assemblages and jewelry. Right now I have images of lettuce necklaces, brussel sprout leis, fingerling potatoes, squash wall  pieces…lush, verdant, visceral, hallucinatory, magical reference to food. I have several hundred components designed to be incorporated into wall quilts, jewelery beyond the asparagus- but, most importantly the perfect, timely reminder to return to an aesthetic  subject that really engages all my senses and incorporates my fascination and passion for all things food!

  • Oh Lindly,
I hope you heal quickly! I ADORE how you can combine food-like forms and pc into fantastic wearable art! No one does it better. I really like that F & F piece, as well. It reminds me of little multi-colored cabbages and for some reason the colors bring to mind the illustrations in Beatrix Potter’s “Peter Rabbit”. I love those strange associations that somehow start to make sense and get the wheels turning. I’m putting together a small get-well package for you and sending healing thoughts to you every day. May 2008 bring you only good things!
