In the spirit of my “returning” post my 2008 artistic goals include:

Three months=

  • making a new set of molds from Savoy cabbage, lettuce, and herb leaves
  • Making three prototype necklaces, a salad, a Brussels sprout spiral and an eggplant extravaganza
  • Exploring bracelet and earring designs based upon those themes

Six months=

  • Revisiting, cataloging and fleshing out the food quilt series blocks
  • Exploring updates to six color HP printing on archival paper
  • Printing a few prototype images

New Year’s 2009=

  • completing a series of twelve food vignettes -perhaps sushi as before? or involving new food groups
  • investigate appropriate, relatively inexpensive framing that highlights the pieces
  • prepare proposal for gallery show

  • Your list of salads (and Brussel Sprouts) makes me smile. I have been looking at some new vegetable and fruit fabrics and trying to justify getting some for a quilt.

  • Becky- Thanks for reminding me about my vegetable fabric! I was thinking the other night about making another small fabric quilt and looking on the internet, and decided iit was hard to tell colors and to combine fabrics online…and besides, usually I would relish a trip to the fabric store.

I made an 18 inch square pillow with the lemon, lime, snap pea and watermelon fabric and hand quilted it. AND in my third dresser drawer underneath some t-shirts (stashed years ago) I have a set of vegetable fabric squares already cut, washed and ironed= ready for quilting. These are much more de-saturated= grapes, canteloupes and mushrooms= to a great, easily handable hand quilting project.

So, I’d encourage you to go for it! The patterns are fun, the colors are yummy and it is fun to re-iterated the lines of the vegetables and fruit in the quillting.
